Ethereum’s Core Developers Plan Dencun Upgrade for Testnets

The Ethereum network is gearing up for the Dencun upgrade, which aims to enhance data capacity and performance. Scheduled for testing in early 2024, the upgrade will roll out across three testnets: Goerli, Sepolia, and Holesky.

Key features include proto-danksharding to boost data storage capacity and the implementation of EIP-4844 blob transactions, reducing data costs for rollups. Dencun also introduces other improvements like transient storage and a new BLOBBASEFEE opcode.

AltLayer Unveils Restaked Rollups for Enhanced Rollup Services

AltLayer, in collaboration with EigenLayer, has introduced restaked rollups, a novel framework aimed at streamlining rollup services. This framework integrates decentralized sequencing, verification, and fast finality into a new category called Actively Validated Service (AVS).

By addressing challenges faced by existing rollups—such as verification, centralized sequencing, and slow finality—restaked rollups offer a comprehensive solution. Developers can seamlessly integrate these bundled services with any rollup stack. AltLayer plans to incorporate this innovative framework into its rollup-as-a-service platform.

Celestia Enhances Data Availability for Arbitrum Orbit

Celestia has integrated support for the Arbitrum Nitro tech stack, allowing developers using Arbitrum Orbit to leverage Celestia for data availability in their rollups. Notably, the integration includes an Ethereum Fallback feature, enabling rollups to seamlessly access Ethereum data when needed.

Additionally, Celestia plans to integrate Arbitrum Orbit with Blobstream, which facilitates commitments to Celestia’s data root via an onchain light client on Ethereum. Currently available on the Sepolia and Goerli testnets, a mainnet integration is expected in early 2024.

Frame Unveils $FRAME Airdrop

Frame, an Ethereum-based rollup focused on NFTs, has introduced its $FRAME governance token along with an airdrop. The initial distribution, known as Chapter One, rewards users who have actively traded NFTs on the Ethereum Mainnet in the past two years. Subsequent phases will further incentivize active rollup participants.

Eligible users can currently claim their $FRAME tokens, set to be released on January 31st alongside the mainnet launch. These tokens will initially be non-transferable.
